Robert Kleiner Commons
The Robert Kleiner Commons is located amid the student living centers. It hosts a dining Marketplace, the Kleiner C-store (open 24 hours), and Java City. Computers are available for student use in Kleiner. It was built in 1989 with an extensive renovation in 2000.
The building is named for Grand Rapids attorney Robert Kleiner, who is best known as a fiery supporter of the Democratic Party. Kleiner was a delegate to the Democratic National Political Conventions in 1964, 1968, and 1976. He served as legal advisor for the Kent County Democratic Party and the Fifth District Democratic Committee.
Kleiner served as a member of the Grand Valley State College Board of Trustees, the Michigan Democratic Party’s Central Committee, the Grand Rapids Art Museum Board, and the Fountain Street Church. He is married to Dorothy and has one daughter.
